Him: Something true? Fine. The truth is I don’t know how to live these two lives anymore. I go home to my wife and pretend everything is normal, while all day I’m thinking about you. Then I come here and feel guilty for leaving her. I’m exhausted from lying to everyone, including myself.
Her: That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you. You get to go home. You get to sleep beside her, have dinner with her, wake up next to her. I get whatever hours you can steal. And every time I ask for more, you tell me you need time.
Him: Because I have a family. It’s not as simple as walking away.
Her: I know it’s not simple. But “not simple” has become your excuse for never choosing. You tell me you love me, but you haven’t been willing to lose anything for me.
Him: You think I don’t love you?
Her: I know you love me. That’s what makes it hurt. Because love without a decision just keeps me waiting.
Him: What if I leave?
Her: Don’t ask me that unless you’re actually ready to do it. I don’t want you to leave because you’re afraid of losing me. I want you to leave because you’re finally honest about the life you don’t want anymore.
Him: And if I’m not ready?
Her: Then I need to walk away. I can’t keep being the part of your life you visit when you have time.
Him: So you’re ending this?
Her: I’m ending the waiting. If you choose me, you’ll know where to find me. But I’m not going to keep hiding while you decide whether I’m worth the risk.
Him: What am I supposed to tell my wife?
Her: The truth.
Him: Even if it’s ugly?
Her: Especially if it’s ugly.
