My Husband Sold My Car at 36 Weeks Pregnant — Then My Neighbor Told Me Who Came to Collect It

My neighbor said the man who came to collect the car wasn’t a stranger. She recognized him because he’d been sitting in our driveway for almost twenty minutes before she went outside. When she asked if he was there for the car, he told her my husband had already given him the keys and the paperwork. She said there was something about the way he said it that made her uncomfortable.

I called my husband and asked him where my car was. He acted surprised that I even cared and said the buyer had already picked it up. Then my neighbor interrupted me and asked whether I knew the man had brought a second set of keys with him. I told her no. She went quiet and said, “That’s not the part that bothered me.”

She had watched him open the trunk before leaving. He didn’t take anything from it. Instead, he stood there for a moment, looked inside, and then closed it again. Before getting into the car, he made a phone call and said something my neighbor could hear from across the driveway. She couldn’t make out everything, but she heard my name and the words “she still doesn’t know.”

I asked my husband what that meant. He immediately said my neighbor must have misunderstood him and told me to stop making a big deal out of nothing. But when I checked the old messages on his phone, I found the listing, the sale agreement, and one message from the buyer that had been sent three days before my husband ever told me he was thinking about selling the car…
