My Daughter-In-Law Accidentally Sent Me The Message She Wrote About My Granddaughter’s Wedding (PART 2)

…your daughter-in-law herself. It’s a twenty-fifth anniversary vow renewal.”

My daughter-in-law, Cheryl, had moved her own vow renewal into my granddaughter’s venue, on my granddaughter’s wedding date. She’d planned to tell my granddaughter, Hannah, that the venue had “double-booked” and that the wedding would have to move to a community hall. My $20,000 would pay for Cheryl’s party and their new car.

I drove to Hannah’s apartment that evening and showed her everything. She went pale. Then she started to cry.

“Grandma, I’ve been dreaming about that venue since I was twelve,” she said.

“Then you’ll have it,” I said.

The next morning, Hannah and I went to the venue together. The manager reinstated the original reservation in Hannah’s name. I paid the deposit directly. Not to Cheryl. Not to my son.

Cheryl’s vow renewal was cancelled. My son, Rick, apologized for not paying attention. Cheryl said I’d “humiliated” her. I told her she’d tried to steal her own daughter’s wedding.

Hannah got married in June, under the oak trees, exactly as she’d always dreamed. I sat in the front row. Cheryl came, and to her credit, she cried during the vows. At the reception, Hannah raised her glass and thanked “the grandmother who made this day possible.” Everyone turned to look at me. I’ve never been prouder.
