My Husband’s Identical Twin Offered To Take His DNA Test For Him. Three Weeks Later, My Marriage Was Over (PART 2)

…”drove him to the clinic for his vasectomy. Two years ago. He didn’t want you to know.”

I turned to my husband, Adam. He had begged me for a baby for two years. We’d spent nights planning nursery colors. And he’d secretly had a vasectomy?

Adam’s twin, Luke, looked miserable. “He told me he wasn’t ready to be a father, but he couldn’t tell you because you’d leave. When you got pregnant, he panicked. He thought the test would prove the baby wasn’t his, and then he could say you cheated and walk away without being the bad guy. I took the test for him because I didn’t want you humiliated. I thought, if it’s my DNA, at least it’ll say yes.”

The specialist cleared his throat and explained the rest. Vasectomies can, in rare cases, reverse themselves naturally. The detailed analysis, which could tell the twins apart through tiny genetic differences, showed that Adam was absolutely the father.

Adam started to smile, as if this solved everything. “See? The baby’s mine. We’re fine.”

“We’re not fine,” I said. “You had surgery to avoid having children with me while I tracked my cycles. You planned to call me a cheater. And you sent your brother to lie for you.”

Adam tried to say he’d changed his mind, that he was happy now. But I saw how quickly he’d gone from planning to destroy my reputation to smiling once it suited him.

I filed for divorce that month. Adam pays child support and sees our son every other weekend. He’s a better father than he was a husband, which isn’t saying much, but I’m glad our son has him.

Luke apologized to me more than anyone. He’s at every birthday and every school play. My son calls him Uncle Lu. When people at the park ask whether he’s the dad, Luke laughs and says, “No. I’m the one who told the truth.”
