My Daughter’s Future Mother-in-Law Told Me to Watch Her Wedding on a Screen — Then the Bartender Brought Me the Bride

Denise came back with my daughter still wearing her wedding dress. My daughter took one look at the broken screen, then at me sitting alone in the lounge, and her expression changed completely. “Mom, why are you here?” she asked. I tried to explain that I’d been told this was the easiest arrangement and that I didn’t want to make anyone uncomfortable. She shook her head and said, “You were supposed to be sitting with me.”

Denise told her exactly what had happened. She explained that I’d been sitting there for nearly an hour because the screen wasn’t working, and that nobody had come to check on me. My daughter looked toward the ballroom doors and asked whether there was actually a problem with bringing my chair inside. Denise said there wasn’t. The lounge had simply been presented to me as the solution.

My daughter took my hand and said she was going back to the ceremony with me. I told her she couldn’t just leave her own wedding, but she said, “I can if my mother isn’t there.” When we reached the ballroom, several people turned around. Her future mother-in-law immediately stood up and asked why I was coming in. My daughter answered before I could say anything: “Because she was never supposed to be watching my wedding from a screen.”

Then my daughter walked me to the front row herself. She stopped beside the chair that had been reserved for me and looked at her future mother-in-law. “You told her she had to stay in the lounge,” she said. “The venue told me that’s not true.” Nobody spoke. Then Denise quietly handed my daughter something she’d found at the bar — a printed seating plan showing exactly where I had originally been placed. My daughter looked at it, then at the woman who had moved me, and said, “So tell me why you changed it.”
